Helping children experience the joy of reading is the goal of the Children’s Department @ the Basehor Community Library. Programs are available for children through the 5th grade.
Most activities take place at the library, but programs also extend into the local elementary schools, preschools & day care centers.
StoryTime Schedules
Storytots: Birth-23 months
- Tuesdays, 10:00 – 10:20 am
Storypals: 2-3 year-olds
- Wednesdays, 10:00-10:30 am
Storyfriends: 3-5 year-olds
- Thursdays, 10:00-10:30 am
Storyfamily: 2-7 year-olds
- Saturdays, 10:00-11:00 am
Monthly Programs for children K – 5th Grade
First Wednesday:
1st, 2nd and 3rd Grade Book Club, 4:15-5:15 pm
Miss Vickey reads a book followed by an activity, game or other “fun stuff” pertaining to the book. *Registration begins the week before each book club.*
Second Wednesday:
4th and 5th Grade Book Club, 4:15-5:15 pm
If you like reading, talking and eating (but NOT at the same time) this book club is for you. 4th & 5th Graders meet each month to discuss a book and other “stuff”. The book and snacks (yes, there will be food) will be provided by the library. Come by or call the library to register.
Third Wednesday:
K-5th Grade: Be Creative @ Your Library, 4:15-5:15 pm
Kindergarten – 5th Graders get to show their creativity through art, crafts, food or science projects. *Registration begins the week before each program.*
Last Wednesday:
K-5th Grade: LEGO Club, 4:00-5:30 pm
LEGO fans age 6-11 are invited to come to the library the last Wednesday of each month to build, create and have fun…the library provides the LEGOs; you provide the know-how!

Summer Reading
Sign-up begins every May for the Summer Reading Program. Children age 0-11 years can earn prizes by reading or having someone read to them….even babies enjoy a good book!
